As thursday the 21st of may was a national holiday the long weekend was an obvious choice for a lot of festivities all over germany. Among it there was a medivial market close to my place in Hallbergmoos. I haven't heard of it the years before, though it wasn't the first time this year.
The homepage of the festival is: Mittelaltertage Hallbergmoos
I went there three times, once I took pictures myself, once I went camera-less and once I had other people taking pictures. The weather was very kind to us and provided us with almost perfect weather, only worsening when we would have gone home anyway.
The entrance to the festival. As it was national holiday and fine weather, there were a good number of visitors. Close to the entrance already the usual stalls of medivial clothing, jewelry and earthenware started. This stall is selling drinking horns and belt holders for them, so one can drink ones mead and beer in style. The false beard on the left is advertised with "beards for women for the stoning". Everyone catching the movie reference :-) ? Part of the area where the festival was held also included this little lake where some medivial folk erected their camps. Swimming in the lake was allowed but the water was still a little too cool. Though later the members of the sword battle took a dip in it. A member of a troupe riding along on his tame dragon. A giant from the same troupe. Mead stall and the barbarian skewer stall right next to each other. No long ways for me ;-). The mead stall was from the Met-Avensis brand, which is at home quite close to here. Fine weather, a barbarian skewer and a cup of mead. Yes, summer really has started now :-). Some members of a barbarian tribe. A mongol warrior talking to the contemporaries. Crusaders, on the way to the holy land or more probably back to their camp :-). A musicians troupe. In the meadow behind the buildings of the "Hausler Hof" (the place where the festival was held) the medivial reenactment groups lived liked anno domini back then for those four days. They exhibited their weapons and armor. The barbarian camp showed clearly where their space began. Nice selection. Ok, who speaks latin, I don't know what it says. My favorite forge :-). This poor guy was honeyed and feathered. The "Hausler Hof" used to be a farm, but is now a restaurant and a location for events. They obviously collect town signs for some reason :-). A troupe playing theatre like a wandering theatre troupe in the middle ages. She had a tame ferret. Looks very soft and nice, but has sharp teeth! Another picture of the camps in front of the lake. At around five the group "Claymore" from Freising exhibited fights with sword and other medivial weapons. Time for some taunting and stretching in the middle of the fight. Don't worry, he didn't kill him. A fight not with the usual swords but with a short spear. Very interesting. The swordfights can't be shown by pictures alone, that's why there is also a little video made by cell phone. Another video from the sword fight. At close to seven the weather turned a little darker and it was time to leave the place.
Ah, a barbarian skewer, a cup of mead, outside and fine weather. No wonder I look ready for nirvana. Some camps, one making wooden clogs. More of the camps in front of the lake. Mainly we took a lot of pictures of their camp because we were sitting there too and were too lazy to get up and take pictures of something else right then :-). Every two hours or so the historical reenactment groups gathered into a little parade. Here we see the "1. Münchner Barbaren" the "1. munich barbarians". More members of the munich barbarians. They are a quite big group. Barbarians having the most fun, I guess. A vikings group in pre-battle formation and banging theirs shields to scare the enemy. Barbarian bag-pipe players from the 1st munich barbarians. More munich barbarians. A group of pikemen. On this day too, there was the sword battle event. And again it was quite hot, so the guys surely got hot a lot under their armor. Still, looks like they have a lot of fun. More action pictures from todays sword fights. By the way, I guess it's kinda hard maneuvering fast in the sand. On the other hand it doesn't hurt falling down. Getting ready for a four people fight. Four people. Almost a battle. Saying goodbye and naming every single combatant. Some camps. Some more camps. Some stalls across the place we were sitting. Guys practicing sword moves. Not my camera, still, all cameras are nice toys :-).
