Amerang ist a moderately well know beautiful small town mostly known for it's open air museum of old farm houses and it's car museum. Also rather well known is the local castle. As medivial markets are quite fashionable and Amerang provides a nice backdrop for one, there also happened to be someone who organized one and because it's always nice to be outside in August we went there.
From over the hop-plants, a lot of tents could be seen already on the way to the festival. I have seen this pole a lot of times on medivial festivals, I really need to check what the accompanying stall is selling some time. Here children could make their own wooden sword. A nice way to get rid of one's kids for an hour and afterwards they have a wooden sword with which to hit their little sister. Useful stall :-). An impression. I never heard "Nachtwindheim" before. They made nice, not so loud music. I prefer the louder type on festivals though. As there was a lot of contact with what's today the middle east during the crusades, camel rides where also offered. The reenactment groups organized a parade a few times a day, so the visitors would be able to see them all in one place. Those bagpipe players led the parade. Crusaders. Templars? The crusaders also had arab soldiers in their troupe. And a belly dancer. Always nice :-). Cool looking armor. I guess with that outfit you can ride the subway in any city of the world and not be bothered. I think those knights already show a little wear and tear from their long battles. The princess of Amerang! Or so he claimed to be. A wild group, probably some germanic or celtic background? Or a fantastic barbarian setting? I forgot to note the name of that band. The camp of the crusaders. There was a lot of space around the castle Amerang, so the archery range was there too. I couldn't resist the tempation to shoot there. I really need to make a range around my parents place next year again. Looking at the pictures I realize how much I like it. Don't worry, no animals were harmed in the making of this picture. One of the main attractions was a story with a big battle where most of the reenactment groups present took part. The story starts here. The barbarian raider (the guy with the back to us and the furs) attacks Amerang in order to rob the treasure. Here he is killing the defender. Now he is victorious and has the treasure (the chest). His man have taken some jesters and minstrels prisoner. The jesters try to amuse the raiders king in order to keep their lifes. Now another army comes in order to rightfully reclaim the treasure. The bad guys go into battle formation. A big battle ensues. At the end of the battle everyone is dead. Only the jesters and minstrels and dancers survived and now are in posession of the treasure. So you see, children: violence is not a solution. The actors get their applause.
